Construction of the St. Lawrence River in the 1950s removed much of the riparian habitats along the shoreline near Cornwall. Coupled with shoreline hardening and filling, hydroelectric projects and other channel modifications, the result has been a seriously degraded reach of the St. Lawrence River. A variety of projects have been undertaken in the area to identify habitat deficiencies and implement restoration.
